On September 27, 1954, Tonight!!, hosted bySteve Allen, premiered on NBC (later renamed The Tonight Show). Allen pioneered the format of a late-night talk show incorporating comedy and music. Allen is remembered for his genuine wit, talent at the piano, and for interacting “live” with his studio audience. In 2009, Steve Allen and The Tonight Show were honored on the Early TV Memories stamp pane.
